A Little About Us

Proudly serving our community since 1893.

Since our creation in 1893, Columbia Hose Company No 1 Inc has been proud to serve our community.  In September 1929, the members made the decision and the company became incorporated.

Our coverage area has grown over the years to include the entire New Milford Borough, 98% of New Milford Township, 50% of Jackson Township and 15% of Franklin Township.  Our primary coverage area spans over 60 miles with approximately 3,300 year-round residents with a seasonal increase to over 4,000 residents. In addition to our primary coverage area we also provide mutual aid coverage (assistance) to our neighboring companies.

As the times have changed so hasn't how we function.  What started with a pull behind hose cart has expanded to an ever growing company.  At the current time we have a Rescue Engine (2001 Pierce), an Engine/Quick Response BLS (1997 E-One Engine), a 1994 Mack Pumper Tanker, and a 1999 Ford Brush Truck that respond to the various types of fire and EMS assist calls that we receive.  We have a 2015 Ford Road Rescue Ambulance and just recently added a second Ambulance to our fleet, a 2009 Ford Braun.  Currently we have over 51 active volunteers, 3 Junior Members (ages 16-18), and 3 Cadets (ages 14-16) who participate on both the fire and EMS sides. We also have numerous life members, which is a member with 20+ years of service.

Our current "main" station was built in the late 1950s but that's not all.  We are currently using the building next door to house our brush truck and our antique 1948 La France.  We also have a secondary location for our Engine which is located on Butterfield Rd in Lakeside PA.  In January 2014, the company was donated property at 587 Main St New Milford Borough.  We are currently in the process of raising funds to build our new station, which will be located at this property.

The fire side of the company is 100% community funded by donations and taxes received from our primary municipalities. Whereas, EMS is 100% funded by donations and insurance reimbursements - EMS is not covered under the taxes that are received from the municipalities.
